WhatsApp channel creation feature available to more users; how it works, other details

WhatsApp recently announced the Channels feature that acts as a one-way broadcast tool for sharing texts, videos and messages. The feature was first announced in June to users in Singapore and Colombia and in July was expanded to seven more countries.

In the latest update, WaBetaInfo reports that the chat app is rolling out the channel creation feature to more users. The official changelog for the WhatsApp for iOS 23.20.76 update on the App Store, when looked closely, mentions the ability to create channels.

WaBetaInfo reports that now more users have access to this feature following the update. To check if you have the update, tap on the second plus button within the Updates tab.

It is worth noting that WhatsApp is gradually rolling out the channel creation feature, so not everyone will have immediate access, even with the latest updates. Therefore, those who haven’t yet received this feature could expect to get it in the coming weeks.

Meta Chief Mark Zuckerberg formally announced the launch of WhatsApp Channels in more than 150 countries including India last month. It is described as a one-way broadcasting tool that allows users to send messages to a large audience.

“Excited to introduce you all to WhatsApp Channels, a new private way for you to get updates from people and organizations you follow. I’m starting this channel to share Meta news and updates. Looking forward to connecting with you all around the world,” he wrote on his private WhatsApp channel.
