Windows Photos app gets new AI powered object eraser | Technology News

Microsoft has introduced a generative AI-powered object eraser to its Photos app. The new functionality will replace the existing ‘Spot Fix’ option, which currently lets users remove blemishes from images and is now called ‘Generative erase.’

According to a recent blog post by Microsoft, Generative erase allows users to fix and remove distractions like background objects and other visual clutter from their photos. The tech giant also says that when compared to Spot Fix, the feature allows users to erase large areas and offers more realistic results after objects are erased.

Apart from the new Magic Eraser, the tech giant also announced that other AI editing features like Blur Background, Remove and Replace Background are also available in the Photos app.

How to use the Windows Photos Generative Erase feature

1. To use Generative Erase, open the image you want to edit and press the ‘Edit Image’ button from the top toolbar.

2. Now, select the Erase option, adjust the brush size, brush over the objects you want to remove and wait a few seconds.

If you want more control or remove multiple objects at once, disable Auto Apply and mask the objects you want to remove.

Microsoft says Generative Erase is currently available to Windows 11 users who are part of the Insider program, but the company plans to bring the functionality to Windows 10 devices. The tech giant also said that the older operating system will also be getting more AI editing features like Remove and Replace background and Blur background.
