Hyderabad: The principal secretary of department of information technology, electronics & communications (ITE&C) and department of industries & commerce Jayesh Ranjan on Saturday called for fostering a spirit of benevolence, especially during the month of October, which witnesses festival like Eid, Dussehra, Navratri, Diwali etc till the year end, when people tend to donate more, narrowing the divide between donors and those in need.
Speaking at a Daan Utsav event, Ranjan said, “Daan Utsav, also known as the Joy of Giving week, is an annual observance from October 2 to 8, during which individuals unite to perform acts of kindness by contributing their time, resources, or funds to various social causes”.
The event featured eight local non-profit organisations, including Goonj, Rohini Foundation, Access Livelihoods, Digital Equity, Deven’s Hope, Vridhi Foundation, Aikarthya, and Earth Tunes Design.
The primary objective of the event was to collect donations, including clothing, books, and electronic waste, with the aim of contributing to sustainable development, animal welfare, children’s health, and digital inclusion.
Ranjan emphasised that by adopting eco-friendly alternatives and making minor adjustments in our lifestyles to reduce factors contributing to global warming, we have the potential to achieve a net-zero carbon emission status for our country in a shorter time frame than we might have initially envisioned.
Social Venture Partners (SVP) India, a venture philanthropy community committed had partnered with Telangana Social Impact Group (T-SIG) to support local non-profits and enhance the spirit of giving in the twin cities.
The event’s venue, the historic Bansilalpet Stepwell, a 17th-century heritage site in Secunderabad, holds particular significance as SVP India has played a pivotal role in its restoration and the clean up of its watershed, positively impacting the lives of approximately 20,000 people in its vicinity.
