Cross-Border Commerce Europe, the platform for promoting cross-border e-commerce in Europe, presents a ranking of the leading online retailers and marketplaces for fashion and beauty in Europe in its new study Top 250 Fashion & Beauty Retail Europe.

The leading cross-border fashion retailers are Amazon, Zalando, eBay, AliExpress and Etsy. The remaining top five competitors, excluding Zalando, are mass merchants. Thus, they have had amazing success in the fashion industry. Although Amazon is ranked first in the international e-ranking, Zalando has a higher market share for online fashion than Amazon (9.8 per cent vs. 8.3 per cent).

Together, the top ten international fashion businesses in the EU control 33.84 per cent of the market for online fashion. Nike is the top brand manufacturer, H&M is the top retailer, Amazon is the top pure player, and EMP (Exclusive Merchandise Products) is the top mail order company, according to a classification of the top 250 by industry. Zalando scores first in the fashion category if the 250 companies are also sorted according to their top-performing product categories, while Notino tops the list for beauty products.

In 2022, the EU’s online fashion and beauty business earned € 122 billion in revenue. Nearly € 45 billion of this total were exported. Total sales are anticipated to increase by 18 per cent by 2026, reaching € 144 billion. The existence of C2C marketplaces that provide sustainable possibilities for reselling and second-hand clothing is a factor supporting this growing trend. C2C resale platforms are anticipated to account for about one-sixth of all online fashion sales by 2026.

In 2022, the EU’s B2C online retail sector will be worth € 729 billion, with fashion and cosmetics making up 17 per cent of this total. By 2026, it’s anticipated that more than 25 per cent of the fashion and beauty industry’s trade would be done online. Emerging trends like the metaverse, livestream shopping, personalisation, and second-hand fashion assist this development.
