This time of year, travelers are seeking the warmth and laid-back atmosphere of island destinations more than ever. However, the logistics of planning a transoceanic trip can be challenging, which is why many airline industry giants are expanding their services.

American Airlines, for example, recently introduced a ton of routes set to start operating at the end of 2023 and the start of 2024.

Two, in particular, will be nonstop flights to these gorgeous islands:

Jamaica

On February 24, 2024, American Airlines is set to launch its first route between Miami and Ian Fleming International Airport, which is 10 km east of Ocho Rios in northern Jamaica.

As it happens, this is one of the most well-connected airports in the island nation, serving as a gateway to some of Jamaica’s most sought-after hotspots, including Ocho Rios itself, Runaway Bay, and Montego Bay.

U.S. travelers will initially be able to fly twice a week on an Embraer 175 aircraft that holds a little under 80 passengers.

Though capacity might seem limited, it’s worth noting that, at the time of writing this article, there are no other airlines linking the two destinations, so the impact this new addition will have on the connectivity between Jamaica and the U.S. will be significant.

Moreover, American Airlines plans to expand the frequency of these flights once peak season approaches, so chances are all travelers looking to experience Jamaica this upcoming year will be able to get their hands on some tickets.

Why Visit Jamaica?

There’s no shortage of sunny, naturally blessed destinations in the Caribbean, so what makes Jamaica so popular among American travelers?

Well, there really aren’t that many places on Earth that combine a truly fascinating culture and stunning beaches as well as Jamaica does.

The island’s lush landscapes, from the misty Blue Mountains to the sun-kissed shores of Seven Mile Beach, create a varied, picturesque backdrop that’ll have you double-checking whether what you’re seeing is actually real.

However, what really sets the island apart from other destinations of its kind is its rich cultural heritage. From historical sites like the Rose Hall Great House to the bustling local markets, every corner of Jamaica tells a story.

Getting to learn more about the country’s history and culture will help you appreciate the already mouth-watering cuisine here that much more.

So, climb Dunn’s River Falls, take a sunset walk on the beach, and don’t forget to savor local delicacies and talk to the warm locals in between – I assure you your trip to Jamaica will be one for the books.

Bermuda

Another American Airlines route set to start operating next year will link Washington D.C. with Bermuda.

It’s worth noting that this is a relaunch since AA did offer direct flights between the two airports up until 2019.

However, since then, no direct flights connecting Washington and Bermuda have been available. So, if you were to travel to the Atlantic island right now, you’d have to book a route with at least one stop.

According to the prices listed on the American Airlines webpage at the time of writing this article, the cheapest flight connecting the two destinations costs $560 and involves a stop at the Charlotte Douglas International Airport.

Come April 4, 2024, though, all that changes, as the newly announced direct route seems to be here to stay.

Why Visit Bermuda?

There’s a reason why a tiny, 20.5 mi² (53.2 km²) island has amassed such a name for itself among travel circles.

Though there’s an abundance of natural wonder squeezed in this limited area, the feature that’s arguably drawing tourists the most is Bermuda’s famous pink sand, which gives its already stunning beaches an otherworldly look.

Between Horseshoe Bay Beach, Church Bay, and Sandys Parish, those looking to experience some truly jaw-dropping coastlines are in for a treat.

Beyond its exceptional views, Bermuda boasts centuries-old forts, pastel-colored colonial architecture, and cobblestone streets that can transport visitors to a bygone era.
