Chandrayaan-3 Spacecraft Covers Two-Thirds Of Distance To Moon, Lunar Orbit Injection On August 7

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) reported that the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft, which launched on July 14, had completed about two-thirds of its mission to the Moon. “Tomorrow, in another crucial manoeuvre the spacecraft will be injected into Moon’s orbit. The Lunar Orbit Injection (LOI) is set for around 7 pm on August 5″, the Bengaluru-headquartered national space agency said on Friday.

According to PTI, ISRO has completed five orbital modifications in the last three weeks, gradually putting the spacecraft further away from Earth. The “slingshot move,” performed on August 1, essentially diverted the spaceship from its Earth orbit to the Moon.

On the trans-lunar injection, the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft broke away from its orbit above Earth and began on a course that would take it close to the moon, according to PTI.
