IATSE avoids strike and reaches tentative agreement with Broadway League and Disney Theatrical

NEW YORK — With Hollywood closed due to work stoppageanother entertainment union narrowly avoided going on strike.

The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, or IATSE, began voting on strike authorization on Wednesday, but reached a tentative agreement with the Broadway League and Disney Theatrical Productions on Thursday morning, the parties said.

Around 1,500 stagehands, hair and make-up artists and costumers under the so-called “pink contract” were said to have been affected.

Pink Contract employees are employed directly by productions and work on Broadway shows for out-of-town tryouts and tours.

“These are the people who run so many vital functions behind the scenes and without them there is no show,” a rep said.

The agreement still needs to be ratified.

Negotiators say they will brief their members on the deal in the coming days.
