SCHUMER REVEALS: SYRACUSE’S PPC BROADBAN…

Schumer Secured Billions To Grow Broadband And Included Critical “Buy American” Provisions To Boost Upstate NY Manufacturers, And Now Thanks To His Efforts PPC Broadband Is Growing In Central NY Bringing Production Back From Overseas

Senator Says, Since President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law Was Enacted, PPC Has Seen Major Growth And Is Now Investing In New Production Lines – Already Adding Nearly 120 Good-Paying Jobs, With 70+ New Jobs By End Of 2024

Schumer: Our Bipartisan Infrastructure & Jobs Law Is Boosting Good-Paying Jobs For Syracuse & Helping Cement CNY As Home To America’s Broadband Future!

After visiting last year to highlight how the Bipartisan Infrastructure & Jobs law would be a boon for the region’s growing broadband industry, U.S. Senate Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer today revealed how Belden’s Broadband Solutions Business, PPC Broadband in East Syracuse, is already experiencing major job growth and now is bringing production back from overseas to Central NY.

Schumer explained that PPC, which makes components critical to broadband connections, is expecting to have nearly 200 jobs in Central New York with more than half already hired and applications open now directly, because of the “Buy America” requirements and billions in federal investment he secured to build out high-speed internet across New York and the nation. Schumer said this will take the business from nearly 350 employees in 2021 prior to the law to about 550 by the end of 2024.

“When I led the Bipartisan Infrastructure & Jobs Law to passage, I made sure it super-charged high-speed internet build out and that it would do so with companies and components right here in the USA. And that has turned into job, jobs, jobs in Syracuse. PPC Broadband is bringing production back from overseas to Central NY, adding hundreds of new good-paying jobs, as they ramp up production of key components to supply the boom in broadband buildout sparked by my federal infrastructure law,” said Senator Schumer. “If we are building it in America we should be making it in America, and there is no place more suited for America’s high-speed internet future than Syracuse. Investing in tomorrow’s workforce today is how we can breathe new life into Central New York’s manufacturing legacy, and PPC Broadband is at the forefront of this effort – ensuring New Yorkers can get the good-paying jobs to build a good life for them and their families.”

“Senator Schumer, we heard you, President Biden, and other Administration officials who made it a priority for U.S. taxpayer dollars to be used in U.S. factories,” said Cary Mullin, Vice President and General Manager at Belden’s PPC Broadband Solutions.  “That emphasis stimulated capital investments and job creation that will cement our future in Central New York.”

“Over the past two years, President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law – passed by Congress under Majority Leader Schumer’s leadership – has driven a manufacturing boom, created good-paying jobs, and delivered transformative projects that are expanding opportunity for communities across the country.” said Mitch Landrieu, Senior Advisor to President Biden and White House Infrastructure Coordinator. “PPC Broadband’s great announcement is even further proof that the President’s historic high-speed internet investments and Made in America policies are driving unprecedented private sector commitments in manufacturing right here at home.”

“The Internet for All initiative is not just a connectivity program, it’s a jobs program—for the people who will build the networks and for the people who are making the equipment these networks need,” said Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Communications and Information and NTIA Administrator Alan Davidson. “If fiber optic cable can be made in America, it should be made in America. Companies like PPC are stepping up and answering that call. I thank Majority Leader Schumer – a true Congressional champion for delivering affordable, reliable, high-speed Internet service to all Americans – for inviting me to celebrate PPC’s exciting announcement today.”

Schumer explained that PPC Broadband is currently experiencing historic levels of growth – thanks to the Bipartisan Infrastructure & Jobs Law – and is using this significant support to bring back hundreds of good-paying jobs from overseas. PPC has added 117 jobs since 2021 when the law was enacted and anticipates adding another 70+ jobs by the end of 2024 – overall adding nearly 200 employees to its Syracuse workforce by the close of next year and bringing its workforce to nearly 550 in East Syracuse.

In addition to the jobs mentioned above, PPC also is onshoring production from Mexico and the UK to support both new construction and improvements to existing PPC enclosures. Schumer said PPC has spent and plans to spend over $9 million in capital for fiber cable extrusion, termination, and testing, as well as automated assembly for connectivity, all needed for rural broadband projects and projects to meet the demand from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act’s (IIJA)Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) Program.

Schumer has delivered record funding to expand rural and affordable broadband access in Upstate New York. Today’s announcement is on top of the historic federal funding secured in the Bipartisan Infrastructure & Jobs Law which included a record $65 billion for the expansion of high-speed internet to connect the unserved and underserved, as well as make internet affordable and provide resources for digital literacy. In June, Schumer announced New York state will receive a historic nearly $670 million in federal funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Investment & Jobs Act, the largest single federal investment for broadband in New York State’s history. This is in addition to the major federal funding the senator delivered in the American Rescue Plan to help state and local governments make long-term infrastructure investments in communities like expanding broadband access, and the $100 million award also through the American Rescue Plan for New York State from the Treasury Department’s Coronavirus Capital Projects Fund announced by Schumer to expand high-speed internet.

PPC Broadband, which has been in East Syracuse since 1942, designs, develops, manufactures, and distributes systems and components that facilitate broadband connectivity, expansion, and deployment. Through the decades, PPC has delivered products from its New York location into nearly every connected home in the United States, and the company continues that legacy as broadband access is delivered to more and more Americans. PPC is committed to developing a locally grown workforce and enabling its workers to increase information availability across the world. PPC prioritizes the creation of jobs that will attract and keep those who grew up in Central New York close to home – investing heavily in R&D and adding high-skilled jobs, while recruiting at Syracuse University, Onondaga Community College, Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), Clarkson University, and SUNY Polytechnic Institute, among other New York educational institutions.
