Lakefield gains auto body repair business – The Globe

LAKEFIELD — Lakefield is due to welcome a new car repair business, Redman Auto Body Garage, in the near future. Located at 80500 Minnesota 86 and operating in the same building as Diggs Deep Detailing, Redman Auto Body Garage offers vehicle estimates, dent and hail repair and plans to expand to painting once the business opens after the completion of its paint booth.

Owner Robert Redman said his interest in auto body repair is one that started early in life.

“I got into auto body because it always intrigued me on how you take something that’s smashed, dented or faded and make it look like new again,” shared Redman. “At that time, it seemed like a ‘black art’ to me. And I’ve noticed way too many poor repairs on vehicles and thought, ‘Why can’t it be done better?’”

I tell clients that if I do my job correctly, there should be absolutely no way of anyone knowing that anything has ever been repaired on your vehicle. That’s how I know the job is done correctly and that’s my goal every time.

“So I made it my career to do just that,” he added. “It has also been my dream since high school to build and own my own body shop.”

Redman said he has been working toward owning his own auto body repair business since college.

“I went to college in Mankato for auto body (repair) and graduated top of my class. While in college, I competed in a statewide auto body competition and got second place,” he said. “I’ve been doing auto body now for over 25 years. I managed a body shop for 12 years, co-owned one for 11 years and now finally achieved my goal of literally building my own from the ground up.”

It was at a party where Redman met friend and future business collaborator Trey Diggs, owner of Diggs Deep Detailing, with whom he shares a building.

“Trey and I met at a friend’s birthday party a few years back,” he said. “Our wives have actually known each other since grade school. I was just telling him that I was going to be putting up a building for a body shop and he started telling me about his dream of detailing cars. The more we talked, the more it all started coming together. Both of us are going to be able to accomplish our lifelong dreams. It’s rewarding to be building dreams together.”

Redman said his goal for his work is for it to look as if the car had never had any need to be repaired.

“People tell me that my attention to detail is over the top,” he said. “I tell clients that if I do my job correctly, there should be absolutely no way of anyone knowing that anything has ever been repaired on your vehicle. That’s how I know the job is done correctly and that’s my goal every time.”
